Pylon Reenactment Society gyrated all over Will's Pub

Nostalgia? Pffffft. Despite naming their band "Pylon Reenactment Society," this band is a living and breathing creative whirlwind. Led by OG Pylon frontwoman Vanessa Briscoe Hay, this Athens quartet made their long-awaited return to Orlando for the first time in years — as the packed-out house at Will's Pub attested to.

PRS showed off both all the vintage Pylon hits (given vivid new life) and sprinkled in plenty of songs from their new album Magnet Factory. And these songs kept the floor moving just as much as the hits. Hay's snarls, screams and yelps were commanding and fully untouched by time; bassist Kay Stanton and guitarist Jason NeSmith went hard with faux rock-star antics and poses. Orlando Weekly even got a shout-out from the stage when Hay (referring to last week's cover feature on the band) deadpanned, "Who would have thought I'd be a cover girl at my age?"

Pylon comrades the Pauses opened the night, showing off their newer, heavier material — that we're very excited about — and closing with a cover of Nirvana's "Scentless Apprentice."
