Dark Universe: All the rides and attractions coming to Universal Orlando's new park

Frankenstein’s monster, the Wolf Man, the Mummy and more Universal Monsters will have their own dedicated land when Epic Universe opens next year.

Today, Universal Orlando revealed all-new details about the rides, attractions and experiences inside Dark Universe — one of the five themed lands that call Epic Universe home.

Dark Universe brings together classic monsters and a new generation of characters — like Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the great-great-granddaughter of the original mad scientist — in a haunted village known as Darkmoor. The gnarly, science experiment-filled land is a bold and intense move for the new theme park opening in 2025, but Universal assures fans it’ll still be family-friendly.

Like the other lands, you’ll enter Dark Universe through its signature portal — this one electrified with dark energy that pulsates and merges at the coiled tower of Frankenstein Manor. The village is surrounded by blackened stone walls, dilapidated structures and creepy, woodsy areas where you’ll meet, ride with and dine among the iconic monsters.

Dark Universe attractions

Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment: Billed as Universal Orlando’s “most terrifying attraction yet,” the dark ride explores Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s lab of twisted experiments inside the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor. When she attempts to demonstrate her control over the dangerous Dracula, the vampire and a horde of monsters is unleashed. The intense indoor ride is a race through the dark to escape the Wolf Man, the Mummy, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Brides of Dracula.

Curse of the Werewolf: The new spinning family coaster is inspired by The Wolf Man (1941). Before taking off into the woods to escape a pack of werewolves, you’ll learn about the mark of the werewolf from Maleva, an all-knowing seer and the leader of the Guild of Mystics.

Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience: Dr. Pretorius’ old lab has been transformed into a parlor where guests can get done up in monster-maker face paint and temporary tattoos to showcase their favorite monsters.

Meet the Monsters: The creatures of Dark Universe are eager to meet guests of all ages as they roam around Darkmoor. Keep an eye out for Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the scientist’s servant Ygor, the Invisible Man, monster hunters and storytellers.

Dark Universe dining and shopping

Das Stakehaus: This dining hall is run by vampire familiars looking for their masters’ next meals. Inside, the walls showcase artwork and artifacts showcasing the history of the Darkmoor vampires. On the menu are kebabs, burgers, sandwiches and more.

The Burning Blade Tavern: The go-to hangout for the village’s monster hunters, the Burning Blade stays true to its name — the blades of the old windmill still ignite every now and then. Inside, guests are surrounded by monster head “trophies” and are regaled by the hunters’ boastful tales from beyond the village.

De Lacey’s Cottage: The food stand near Frankenstein Manor is inspired by the original monster’s hideaway from Mary Shelley’s novel. Here you’ll find snacks like cinnamon bread, twisted taters, ice cream and more.

Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities: Bring home a monstrous souvenir from shopping spots throughout Darkmoor, including the main Pretorius’ Scientific Oddities shop.

So far, Universal Orlando has announced four of the five planned lands coming to Epic Universe. The resort has shared rides and attractions for Celestial Park, The Isle of Berk: How to Train Your Dragon, Super Nintendo World and now Dark Universe. They’ve also shown off two space-themed hotels under construction near the new theme park.

The final land to be revealed will be The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic.
