The Southeastern Academy of Travel and Tourism closed its doors in 2001, as a result of financial difficulties. In the following years, the property housed a number of organizations, including the Positive Directions Alliance, which served the homeless and other deprived individuals, and the Kissimmee Christian Academy.
The building has sat vacant since 2004, but vandalism didn't begin until about 2008. In 2009, a fire was set on the property, damaging a storage shed filled with books and school supplies. A fence has since been erected around the property, but according to Abandoned Florida, "officials and neighbors seem to not pay attention to who comes and goes off the property."
