As Hurricane Milton threatens to barrel through Central Florida later this week, city officials in Orlando announced Monday that four parking garages located downtown will be free for locals to park their vehicles in, as a way to help residents avoid storm-related vehicular damage.

Hurricane Milton, which is projected to make landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm as of Monday afternoon, could potentially cause flooding in our area, and is expected to come through Orlando with strong winds.

If you're looking for somewhere to safely store your passenger vehicle ahead of Milton's arrival, fees will be waived for parking, beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, at the following four parking garage locations only:
  • Central Boulevard Garage, located at 53 W. Central Blvd.
  • Jefferson Street Garage, located at 62 W. Jefferson St.
  • Library Garage, located at 112 E. Central Blvd.
  • Orange County Administration Garage, located at 300 Liberty Ave.
Fees will be waived from Wednesday at 6 a.m. through Friday at noon. A news release from the city warns that cars should be removed by then, depending on road and weather conditions. So if you want to avoid fees, keep that in mind.

Oversized vehicles, campers, boats, trailers and other watercraft will not be permitted to park in these garages during this time. The hurricane-specific fee waiver applies to passenger vehicles only. Height restrictions must also be adhered to, according to the city (standard motor vehicles should be fine).
