As we looked around the arena, we saw a tidal wave of raised hands that moved at different paces but somehow worked in unison. It sounded as if there was never a break in the audience’s screams.
The dual headliners XCX and Sivan pushed pop music to its utter limits, even innovating in terms of overall show flow.
Charli and Troye spent the entire night switching back and forth, keeping the audience on their toes as they tried to anticipate who would take the stage next. Charli XCX would sing a handful of songs and disappear, and Sivan would emerge from the wings to perform a handful of his own songs before he also vanished. This exchange in shared stage time went on for the duration of the night.
After Shygirl opened the show, Sivan was the first headliner to perform, setting the standard for the rest of the night. His performance was hypnotic. Not only did he sound too good to be true, but he also maintained infectious excitement and energy while dancing and Sweat-ing through each song.
While Charli XCX was the second of the headlining pair to take the stage, her performances were anything but second best. There’s a reason she took the internet by storm with her infamous “brat summer” and “brat” attitude. As soon as the giant “brat” curtain collapsed, the Kia Center turned into a club — with Charli XCX as the world’s most hyped-up DJ.
After finishing the interchanging solo turns, the two united to perform their tracks that featured one another, including “1999” and the “Talk Talk” remix.
The stage design consisted of strobe lights, strobe lights and more strobe lights. The Sweat tour is definitely not for someone who has light sensitivity issues, but our advice is to bring your coolest pair of sunglasses because this is a must-see tour.
Our only complaint about the evening is that it ended.
