How to be a goth in the sunshine state
The How-To Issue
Published: November 6, 2013
It’s hard times and melty makeup for a goth in one of the most scorching states in the country. While everybody else is letting their unmentionables breathe in shorts and tank tops, the goth fashion aesthetic, which often consists of dark, heavy clothing, lots of dark makeup and black leather straps, can be a little uncomfortable when the temperatures rise. But don’t let that stop you from being who you want to be. Orlando goth culture seems to be a weird mishmash of post-modern and cybergoth, so you can be a little more adventurous in your clothing choices. Take full advantage of fishnet stockings, skirts and shirts. Too shy to pull off a fishnet shirt? Wear a tank or T-shirt beneath it. If you’re worried about your makeup running or losing your trademark pale-ass skin, take 20 minutes before you leave the house to lather your face in the SPF of your choice – it doesn’t just keep the sun out, it’ll also provide a foundation to help keep your makeup in place if you start to sweat. After the sunscreen has settled, apply your makeup as you usually would. Your skin is safe and you’re ready to give ’em hell, hell-child.
