Tip Jar: St. Paddy’s Day treats and a new local beer
Plus upcoming food, wine and beer parties
Published: March 12, 2014
In addition to sampling the St. Paddy’s brisket burger and the Guinness cupcake at 4Rivers Smokehouse, I’m really looking forward to stopping by An Tobar, which celebrates its March 14 reopening with a St. Patrick’s Day party March 15 at the Sheraton Orlando North Hotel in Maitland. The Irish pub served its last pint back in July of 2005.
If the fresh-made, -rolled and -cut pasta I had the pleasure of sampling is any indication, Trevi Pasta on Edgewater Drive will have College Park eating out of its hand. Father-daughter tandem Angelo and Vanessa Falcone plan to be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week – hello morning-drive cappuccino, hello lunch-hour panini and hello afternoon gelato.
Beer lovers: In honor of the tragic 2012 loss of the Senator, the oldest cypress tree the world had seen, Orlando Brewing releases The Senator Imperial Stout March 22 at 1 p.m. The event features art carved from cypress as well as nature conservation speakers throughout the day. In other beer news, Jake’s Beer Dinner, featuring the prized Hopslam Double IPA, is this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Royal Pacific Resort.
If you’re heading to Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival (March 5-May 18), be sure to check out the Outdoor Kitchens at the World Showcase pavilions. (Have a Moroccan lamb roll with prunes and sesame for me.) One of our favorite fests on the food calendar – the Food and Wine Classic at the Swan and Dolphin Hotel – returns for a fifth year Oct. 31; chef Todd English makes a return appearance Nov. 1.
Artisan’s Table has opened in the old Pine22 space downtown … Look for Bar Louie to open its second Orlando locale out by UCF this summer … You Say When Yogurt Shoppe has opened at 2415 N. Orange Ave., near Florida Hospital … Lima 41 on Curry Ford Road has closed … Lakeridge Winery’s 6th Annual Wine and Seafood Festival is March 21-23.
