The documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead (available on Netflix), made me a believer in the healing powers of fresh juices. But the hassle of getting the juicer out every morning and spending time peeling and juicing my ingredients, followed by the 20 minutes it takes to thoroughly clean the thing, means regularly juicing fresh fruits and vegetables hasn't been on the to-do list. A couple of places around town do have fresh juice on tap, but nothing like the variety found at the Smoothie Room, an art-filled, spacious SoDo hangout.

Raw foodists, vegans, vegetarians and omnivores will all find something to love here. I sipped on the Agent Orange ($5), a combo of carrot, celery, apple, orange, beet and kale – juice that's as good for your body as its namesake is harmful. If you'd rather the blender than the juicer, try the Butter Face smoothie ($5) – a sweet lavender drink made with almond milk, blueberries, banana, granola and peanut butter.

The Smoothie Room couldn't have chosen a more opportune location, close to a medical complex and next door to 24 Hour Fitness; both places teem with healthy-living enthusiasts. After a visit or two, you might be a believer, too.
