The Bar Tab
Published: March 29, 2012
From the Next-Order-Of-Magnitude Department, we just heard that Ron Raike is moving from head brewer of the nanobrewery at Shipyard Brewpub to head brewer of the micro-brewery at Cask & Larder, the forthcoming brewpub/restaurant from the folks at Ravenous Pig. He just got back from touring Belgium's brew scene and plans to bring some signature Belgian tricks and techniques to Winter Park, which, according to Raike, no one else is doing in the Southeast (though we're pretty sure the folks at St. Somewhere Brewing in Tarpon Springs would beg to differ).
New in town: Barley's Taphouse, which took over the old McRaney's Tavern spot (1566 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park) has opened, admittedly a lot faster than we imagined it would. Slicked up with new siding, a revamped stage and a shuffleboard table (yay!), it's a welcome opening for thirsty folks along that otherwise-dry strip of Fairbanks.
