Although the USC film school gets most of the credit for the New Hollywood wave of the ’70s, in truth it was B-movie DIY advocate Roger Corman who handed folks like Coppola, Scorsese and Bogdanovich a camera and some film and demanded they create something – anything – for Corman to feed the drive-in masses. James Cameron later said he trained at the “Roger Corman film school.” Troma Entertainment founder Lloyd Kaufman is no Corman, but he treads the same boards. Kaufman’s campy cult classic, 1984’s The Toxic Avenger, helped fund his never-ending quest for quality schlock and enabled him to produce the pet projects of other future stars, like Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s debut, Cannibal! The Musical, years before they created South Park. Before Kaufman makes his traditional MegaCon appearance, throw him your questions at this party, which includes a screening of his latest film, Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead and even a couple of local bands that would seem very much at home in a Kaufman film.
