Quink performs at Bach Festival Society
Dutch vocal ensemble keeps it pitch-perfect

It's not Glee – these are serious, world-renowned classical performers – but the singers who make up Dutch a cappella group Quink are not without a sense of humor. Founding member Machteld van Woerden once said that Quink sees their style as "light and not always serious in approach."
Their name refers to their original five members (Latin quintus) as well as punning on two Dutch words: kwinkeleren (warble) and kwinkslag (quip or witticism). There may only be four members now, but witty warbling is still a feature. The New York Times raved about Quink's recording of Benjamin Britten's "Hymn to St. Cecelia," praising their "elegant phrasing" and "purity of tone reminiscent of Renaissance madrigals"; Britten will not be on the program at the Bach Festival Society's presentation Sunday afternoon, but works by other English composers (including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Edward Elgar) will.
