Phantom Limbs art collective reunites for Jan. 17 show at Redefine Gallery
Published: January 16, 2013
One of my post-holiday regrets last week was discovering the Phantom Limbs online shop after all the shopping was done. The storefront at phantomlimbs.goodsie.com is full of ultra-low-priced prints, buttons and art books created by the local(ish) five-man art collective that grew out of the long-closed Neon Forest scene: Scott Donald, André "Dres13" Greppi, Sean Hartman, David Hoskins and Brandon McLean. But now comes even better news than the promise of retail therapy – the collective presents their first show in more than a year at Redefine Gallery during this month's Third Thursday Gallery Hop.
The guys will mostly be showing new solo work – prints, paintings, an installation – at the Redefine Gallery. McLean had a few high-profile local exhibitions in the last year; Hartman had pieces in many of the themed shows that rotated through Mother Falcon in 2011; and well-known gig poster artist Dres13 is never far off the O-town radar, but this is your first chance to see Hoskins' hi-octane prints or Donald's scary-spellbound paintings in Orlando for more than a year.
If you can't make the opening, Prism Pentagonal hangs at CityArts through Feb. 16. Or go drop a few dollars at their online shop; plans are afoot for a collaborative zine and other future team projects.
