Think global, gift local: our 2013 holiday gift guide

RIYL (recommended if you like) gift ideas for everybody on your list

If they like Crane & Co. stationery, then stop by Rifle Paper Co. in Winter Park’s Hannibal Square neighborhood, where you’ll find an assortment of fanciful cards, calendars, invitations and more. All of the products are hand-assembled in-house and feature hand-painted designs and lettering by co-owner Anna Bond. (Rifle Paper Co., 558 W. New England Ave., Suite 150, Winter Park, 407-622-7679, riflepaperco.com, $4.50-$200)

If they like the movie Despicable Me, then they’d surely love to have a knitted Minion doll from local Etsy merchant Socks Knit Palace. (Available online at etsy.com/shop/socksknitpalace, $20-$22)

If they like sipping on sustainable wine, then grab a bottle from Quantum Leap Winery, a newer resident of the Mills 50 district that offers global red and white varietals, which are stored, finished, blended and packaged right here in Orlando (bottles range from $9-$42). You might also opt for a gift basket ($45-$125) or wine club membership ($60-$180) for the amateur sommelier on your list. (Quantum Leap Winery, 1312 Wilfred Drive, 407-730-3082, quantumleapwinery.com)

If they like Sriracha, light up their taste buds with one of the gourmet hot sauces offered by Orlando-based Fat Cat Foods – Purry-Purry Sauce, Papaya Pequin Passion, Cat in Heat, Mexican-Style Habanero, Caribbean Curry, Surprisingly Mild Guajillo Ghost and Chairman Meow’s Revenge. Each bottle’s label depicts the face of Tiggy the Fat Cat, after which the brand was named, and comes with a numbered heat level that can also be found when ordering online. Choose a single bottle ($6.99-$8.99), or go all out and get that hothead a sampler set ($17.99-$42.99). (Available at Fresh Market, 1500 N. Mills Ave., and Artichoke Red, 2808 Edwater Drive; find more stores at fatcatfoods.com)

If she likes Urban Outfitters, then she’ll love any of the cutesy dresses, blouses or accessories at Audubon Park retailer Dear Prudence Shop. Think black cat-face tights, patterned flared skirts, vintage-inspired skater dresses, studded clutches and the like. And if she’s more of the DIY type, you might grab a gift certificate for you both to go back and create your own jewelry in-store. (Dear Prudence Shop, 2912 Corrine Drive, 407-894-8941, facebook.com/dearprudenceshoporlando, $14-$39)

If they like their books how they like their eggs (free range and local), then buy the entire Burrow Press catalogue for $60. Stories are written primarily by local authors and proceeds go to the Page15 writer’s camp and Homework Room in Parramore. (burrowpress.com/subscribe, $60)
