FALL GUIDE

Performing Arts Shores

Photo: , License: N/A

Everyone gets excited when Florida’s fall weather finally rolls in – the sweat factor goes down by a few notches, and we get to gloat to our friends up North again – but for those who prefer to stay inside alphabetizing their Playbill collections, the real treat is the annual reawakening of our arts groups. In a grown-up mirror of the freshly uniformed back-to-schooler eager to impress his new classmates and teachers, Orlando’s theater, classical, opera and dance groups are ready to show off for you. So what did they do on their summer vacations? It seems they spent it trying to figure out how to attract as many paying customers as possible. While our most established arts orgs teeter in DPAC-or-no-DPAC limbo (and the smaller groups realize they will be left out of the DPAC-onanza altogether), Orlando culture vultures will be treated to an autumnal cornucopia of greatest hits. But hey, if it gets more people through the door, we’re all for it. And if you know where to look, there’s still plenty of weirdness in the corners (hint: stay current with OW’s Selections every week). – JBY
