Healthy snacks at 40 Carrots, annual Taste of the Nation dinner soon, and Barnies CoffeeKitchen to open at CityArts Factory

Stopped by Bloomingdale’s the other day and noticed they’ve gotten a bit healthier. Near the first-floor entrance where Dylan’s Candy Bar once stood is 40 Carrots, a snack bar specializing in froyo, smoothies and fresh-squeezed juices. Sugary treats are limited to artisanal caramel corn, gluten-free macaroons and fancy chocolate bars, though they also stock cheesecake brownies and banana nut bread from local baker Little Bit of Heaven.

Speaking of froyo, the original Pinkberry in Dr. Phillips has closed.

It appears that College Park French bakery Delights of Benezit is also shuttered for good; a “Closed Today” note has been stuck on the door for the past three weeks and their phone is disconnected. While I never cared for the service here, the baguettes, croissants and quiches made up a good many weekend breakfasts for me.

Update on the Food & Wine Dinner with Hari Pulapaka and Bram Fowler: Cost is $125 per person (all-inclusive), but the format holds great promise in that there will be a dish from both chefs for each course, plus a collaborative course that will arrive as a surprise to the guests. That’s a lot of food! All in all, expect seven to nine courses (with wine pairings, of course) – Pulapaka’s dishes will be inspired by regional Indian cuisine, and Fowler’s by his native South Africa.

On the subject of Cress, the restaurant will be one of the many participants in the 24th annual Taste of the Nation event benefiting Share Our Strength Aug. 10 – K Restaurant, Christners Prime Steak & Lobster, Fogo de Chao, the Ravenous Pig, Cigar City Brewing, Redlight Redlight and Crave are just a few others. Tickets are $150 per person. Visit facebook.com/orlandotaste for more information.

BRIEFLY:
Cask & Larder is now serving lunch Wednesday through Saturday … Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen will open in the CityArts Factory in August … Super Burger, a joint specializing in Colombian-style burgers, has opened on University Boulevard near UCF … Broad shoulders meet Broad Street at the Basement Orlando, a new bar at 68 E. Pine St. that will serve food by Chi Phi, an eatery specializing in the fare of Chicago and Philadelphia.
