Traditionally, Central Florida’s stages slow following Fringe’s Memorial Day finale, but several local companies are spending this summer preparing for the upcoming season:

Beth Marshall Presents (bethmarshallpresents.com) holds auditions for their 2013-14 season June 22-23 at the Garden Theatre. Up to 100 performers are needed for Play-in-a-Day, 33 Variations, Alice Lost in Wonderland and Beatnik. That last show seeks 1960s-style poets, musicians and performance artists for an “underground speakeasy,” if you can dig it.

Mad Cow Theatre (madcowtheatre.com) holds auditions for their 17th season June 22-24, and for December’s musical, The Light in the Piazza, on Sunday, June 30; e-mail auditions@madcowtheatre.com for an appointment.

Larissa Humiston’s Emotions Dance (emotionsdance.org) seeks adult dancers (three male, three female) and one 14-18-year-old apprentice with “ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary” experience. Prepare a two-minute piece (en pointe optional) for June 25 at Longwood’s Turning Pointe dance studio.

TheatreWorks Florida (theatreworksfl.org) holds auditions in July for Dan Goggin’s Catholic comedy Nunsense, opening in September; visit website for more info.

Valencia College accepts submissions through July 30 for their 23rd annual Florida Playwright Competition. To enter, send a cover letter, bio, script synopsis and 15-page excerpt to jdidonna@valenciacollege.edu.

Seventeen years after it first debuted, Michael Wanzie and Rich Charron’s Lizzie Borden: The Musical is “reimagined” at Theatre Downtown in August, in hopes of attracting New York investors. Tony-winning producer Kenny Howard directs a cast including Andrea Canny, Rebecca Fisher, Frank McClain and Baby Blue Star.

Pillow Talk and A Field Guide to the Gays at Parliament House (June 15, 22 and 29) … Hammers and Lambs at the Venue (June 20-29) … Collected Stories at Mad Cow (June 21-July 14) … Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical at Breakthrough (June 28-July 15).
